Paving & Fencing in Monmouthshire & South Wales

Gate Installation Services In South Wales

Garden Gates South Wales | Supplied & Fitted by Local Specialists

The fence is up and the garden’s coming together. The last thing you need is a gate that doesn’t hang right, doesn’t match the fencing, or starts dropping before the year is out.

Garden Gate Specialists Across South Wales & Herefordshire

Fitting a gate looks simple until you’ve seen one done badly. Posts that aren’t set deep enough. Hinges that pull away from the frame. A gate that starts sagging six months after it went in.

Classic Paving & Fencing has been installing fencing and gates across South Wales for over 35 years. Whether you need a side gate to secure the passage, a matching pair for a driveway entrance, or a solid pedestrian gate for the garden, we visit the property, take the measurements, and get the job done from start to finish.

No middlemen. No subcontractors. The person who quotes you is the same person who fits it.

Types of Garden Gates We Fit

We install timber garden gates for domestic properties across Monmouthshire, Herefordshire and South Wales. The right type depends on the width of the opening, what the gate needs to do, and the style of your existing fencing.

Timber Options, What We Use and Why

The material you choose affects how long your gate lasts, how it looks over time, and how much it costs. Andrew will advise on the site visit based on your budget and how the gate will be used.

Pressure-treated softwood

The most practical choice for most domestic garden gates. It holds up well in Welsh weather, takes paint or stain easily, and offers good durability without the hardwood price tag. This is what most gates in the area are built from.

Hardwood (oak and similar)

More expensive upfront but significantly more durable long-term. If you want a gate that will last decades and take on a natural weathered character, hardwood is worth the investment. Popular on rural and countryside properties.

All timber we use is suited to outdoor use. We don’t fit untreated wood that will deteriorate quickly in the Welsh climate.

Why Homeowners Across South Wales Choose Classic Paving & Fencing

35+ Years
Experience

We have been setting fence posts and fitting gates across Monmouthshire, Herefordshire and the South Wales Valleys for over three decades. That kind of experience shows in the small things: how deep the posts go, how the hinges are set, and how the gate sits in the frame when the job’s done.

We match gates to your existing fencing

A gate that doesn’t match the fence looks like an afterthought. We install gates in styles that complement what’s already there: feather edge, closeboard, and panel, so the finished result looks considered, not cobbled together.

Free on-site quotes with honest advice

No ballpark figures over the phone. We visit the property, measure the opening, check the ground conditions, and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does garden gate installation cost in South Wales?

The cost depends on the size of the gate, the type of timber, and whether new posts are needed. A single standard timber gate with new posts typically starts from around £250, with double gates and more complex installations costing more. The best way to get an accurate figure is to request a free on-site quote — Andrew will visit, measure up, and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Yes. If you have feather edge, closeboard or panel fencing already in place, we can install a gate in the same style and timber. A gate that genuinely matches the fencing — rather than a standard off-the-shelf option bolted onto an existing fence — makes a significant difference to the finished look of a property.

Most single gate installations are completed in half a day to a full day. If the existing posts are solid and the opening is a standard width, it can be quicker. Double gates or jobs with significant ground preparation may take a full day. Andrew will give you a realistic timeframe on the site visit.

In most cases, no. A standard garden gate under 1 metre high at the front of a property, or under 2 metres elsewhere on your boundary, does not require planning permission under permitted development rights. If you’re unsure about your specific situation — particularly in a conservation area or listed building — your local planning authority can advise. We’ll also flag anything that looks unusual when we visit.

Yes. If the existing posts are set solid and in good condition, there’s no need to replace them. Andrew checks the posts on the site visit and will advise whether they’re suitable to reuse. Reusing good posts reduces both cost and installation time.

Pressure-treated softwood is the most practical and cost-effective choice for most domestic gates. It holds up well in the Welsh climate, takes paint and stain readily, and will last many years with minimal maintenance. Hardwood options such as oak cost more upfront but offer significantly longer lifespan and a more premium finish. We’ll discuss options on the quote visit based on your budget and how the gate will be used.

Yes — and it often makes sense to combine both in one visit. We can install fencing and a matching gate together, which is typically more cost-effective than arranging two separate jobs and ensures everything is finished to the same standard at the same time. If you’re planning new fencing, ask about including a gate in the same quote.

Lead times vary depending on the time of year. Spring and summer tend to be busier periods. If you have a specific deadline — a new fence going in, a house move, work that needs to be completed — mention it when you get in touch and Andrew will do his best to schedule accordingly. Earlier is always better.
